Group Therapy in Houston

Group is where insight becomes practice and isolation gives way to connection. Our rotating weekly schedule blends clinical skills groups with experiential work like equine therapy, art, and mindfulness, all led by master’s-level clinicians, in person and virtually. Private pay, with superbills for out-of-network reimbursement.

A weekly Spirituality group is part of the schedule for clients who want it, and faith can be woven into care without ever replacing clinical treatment. Our guide to faith-based and Christian-informed recovery explains how that works in an outpatient setting.

Where Real Change Happens Together

More than a circle of chairs

Group therapy is the heart of our PHP and IOP programs. Our schedule rotates through evidence-based skills groups, recovery and process-addiction work, and experiential modalities, so you practice new tools in real time and feel less alone in the work. Groups are intentionally small, led by master’s-level clinicians, and offered in person at our Houston Heights practice and virtually.

Experiential Therapy

Beyond the talking cure

Some of the deepest work does not happen in words. These experiential groups engage the body, the senses, and the relationship between you and the world around you.

Path representing the recovery journey after residential treatment

With Horses

Equine Therapy

Working alongside horses builds trust, emotional awareness, and presence in a way words alone rarely reach, especially for trauma and relationship patterns.

Adult in reflective individual therapy for self-discovery and identity

Creative Expression

Art Therapy

Creative expression gives feelings a shape when language falls short, opening a gentler path to process trauma, identity, and change.

Mindfulness and yoga practice supporting recovery

Presence & Regulation

Mindfulness & Body-Based Work

Mindfulness, guided meditation, body scan, and trauma-informed yoga teach your nervous system how to settle, so calm becomes a skill you can return to.

Where Group Fits

Part of a larger, individualized plan

Group therapy works best inside a coordinated plan. After an ASAM-guided assessment we recommend a level of care, from the Individualized Intensive Program through PHP, IOP, and Evening IOP, and group is woven in alongside individual therapy and family work. Many groups are also available virtually.

Common Questions

Group therapy, answered

If you do not see your question here, call our admissions team at (877) 549-5102 and we will walk you through it.

What kinds of groups do you offer?

Our rotating schedule includes clinical skills groups (Process Group, CBT, DBT, ACT, SFBT, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy), recovery and process-addiction groups, experiential work like equine therapy, art therapy, mindfulness, body scan, and trauma-informed yoga, plus family and aftercare groups.

Are groups in person or virtual?

Both. Groups meet in person at our Houston Heights practice, and many are offered virtually so you can stay connected even on a busy week.

Do I have to be in a program to join groups?

Group therapy is part of our PHP, IOP, and IIP levels of care. After a brief assessment we recommend the level and mix of groups and individual work that fit your needs.

Do I have to share or talk in group therapy?

No. You are always welcome to listen and participate at your own pace. Many people find that comfort and trust grow naturally over time.

How big are the groups?

Intentionally small. Groups are kept at a size where the facilitator knows every person in the room and everyone has space to be heard.

Is what I share in group kept confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality is a core group agreement, and our clinicians set and protect that expectation so the space stays safe.

Who leads the groups?

Every group is facilitated by a master’s-level clinician, with specialty groups led by clinicians trained in that modality.

Does insurance cover group therapy?

We are a private-pay practice. For clients with out-of-network benefits, we provide detailed superbills you can submit to your insurer for possible reimbursement, and we explain costs before you commit to anything.
