When You Need More Than a Standard Program
Intensive outpatient treatment, designed around one person at a time
Individualized Intensive Programming, or IIP, is our flagship level of care and the clearest expression of how we practice: elevated by design, customized around the person. Instead of slotting you into a fixed track, we build an intensive program from the ground up around your clinical needs, your history, your privacy, and your life.
IIP is ideal for complex or co-occurring presentations, for executives and professionals who need real discretion, and for anyone who has found that one-size-fits-all treatment simply does not fit. It brings the structure, accountability, and clinical depth of a partial hospitalization program or intensive outpatient program into your own home and daily life, then goes further: recovery mentoring and companioning are woven into every phase, so support continues between sessions, not only during them. As clinical intensity steps down, mentoring steps up, creating a smooth, deliberate handoff back to everyday life rather than an abrupt discharge.
Every IIP is built by master’s-level clinicians using the ASAM Criteria as its clinical backbone, then individualized far beyond it: trauma therapy and EMDR, process addiction treatment, dual-diagnosis care, family work, neurofeedback, somatic therapy, and psychiatric coordination are combined in whatever configuration your assessment calls for, at each phase of the program.
Who It Is For
IIP is often the right fit for
Complex Needs
Co-Occurring Conditions
Mental health and substance use treated together in one coordinated plan: depression, anxiety, trauma and PTSD, bipolar and mood disorders, alongside alcohol or drug use.
Discretion Required
Executives & Professionals
High-visibility and licensed professionals who need genuine privacy, flexible or evening scheduling, and treatment that works around a demanding career.
Continuing Momentum
Stepping Down From Residential
Clients leaving residential or inpatient care who want intensive, personal support that protects progress through the highest-risk transition window.
A Different Path
When Standard Programs Have Not Fit
People who have completed treatment before and relapsed, or who know a templated group schedule is not what they need this time.
Whole-Family Care
Families Who Need Structure
Families navigating a loved one’s recovery who want education, communication coaching, and clear roles while the clinical team carries the treatment.
Specialty Focus
Trauma & Process Addictions
Deep trauma work with EMDR and CPT, and CSAT-led care for gambling, sex and love, and technology addictions, built directly into the program.
What Makes IIP Different
Designed around one person at a time
Three things set Individualized Intensive Programming apart from every standard track in Houston.
Built For You
A Plan Designed From Scratch
No fixed track. We assemble your services, intensity, schedule, and setting entirely around your clinical needs and your life, then adjust the plan as you progress.
Every Tool
The Full Modality Palette
EMDR, CPT, CBT, DBT, somatic experiencing, neurofeedback, and CSAT-led care, plus experiential and family work, combined in whatever configuration your plan requires.
Between Sessions
Mentoring Woven In
Recovery mentoring and companioning are built into every phase, so accountability, structure, and real-world support continue in daily life, not only in the therapy room.
The Three Phases
As clinical care steps down, mentoring steps up
Every IIP moves through three structured phases. Clinical intensity is highest at the start and steps down as stability builds; mentoring and companioning grow in the opposite direction. By the final phase, support has already shifted into your real life, so the handoff back to everyday routines is smooth and deliberate, never abrupt.
Phase I
Stabilization & Immersion
Clinical Focus
Clinical care leads: daily structure, intensive individual therapy, psychiatric and medication coordination, and a full assessment across the six ASAM dimensions. Trauma stabilization, EMDR readiness, and process addiction containment begin here.
Mentoring Role
Your mentor is introduced early, building trust, daily accountability, and safe routines at home while the clinical team carries the treatment.
Phase II
Deep Work & Reintegration
Clinical Focus
The core therapeutic phase: EMDR and CPT for trauma, CSAT-led work for sex, love, gambling, and technology addictions, DBT skills, family sessions, and experiential therapies, while work, school, and daily responsibilities are gradually reintroduced.
Mentoring Role
Mentoring expands into real-world practice: applying skills in daily life, navigating triggers, and rebuilding structure, health, and relationships between sessions.
Phase III
Step-Down & Handoff
Clinical Focus
Clinical sessions taper on a planned schedule. Relapse prevention, continuing care planning, and coordination with outside providers prepare you for IOP or outpatient rhythms of care.
Mentoring Role
Mentoring and companioning lead. Your mentor anchors everyday life, accountability, and community connection, and stays in place after clinical care ends for a seamless transition.
The ASAM Criteria · Levels of Care
Built on the bones of ASAM, shaped around you
The ASAM Criteria is the national standard clinicians use to match a person to the right intensity of addiction and co-occurring treatment. Your assessment looks at six dimensions: withdrawal potential, medical conditions, emotional and behavioral health, readiness to change, relapse potential, and your living environment. IIP uses that framework as its clinical backbone, then individualizes everything inside it.
Level 1
Outpatient (OP)
Weekly therapy and support for maintenance, relapse prevention, and long-term growth.
Level 2.1
Intensive Outpatient (IOP)
Nine or more hours of structured programming per week, on five-day, three-day, or evening schedules.
Level 2.5
Partial Hospitalization (PHP)
Twenty or more clinical hours per week, our most structured standard level, while living at home.
Levels 3-4
Residential & Inpatient
When around-the-clock care is indicated, we refer and coordinate with trusted partners, then bring you back into IIP for step-down.
Where a standard program locks you into one level, IIP flexes across them. Your program may begin at PHP-level intensity, taper through IOP-level hours, and finish in an outpatient rhythm, without changing teams, restarting intake, or losing momentum. A licensed clinician reassesses your placement throughout and steps intensity up or down as the six dimensions change. That is what we mean by the bones of ASAM: the structure is evidence-based, and everything built on it, the schedule, the therapies, the mentoring, the setting, is yours.

Mentoring & companioning, woven into every phase
Mentoring & Companioning
Support that lives between sessions
Therapy happens in scheduled hours. Life happens in all the others. Through our sister practice, Heights Mentoring, every IIP includes a dedicated recovery mentor, and companioning when more presence is needed, coordinated directly with your clinical team.
- Daily accountability and structure at home
- Real-world practice of skills between sessions
- Sober companioning for travel and high-risk windows
- Family communication and healthy boundaries
- Community connection and routine building
- A steady presence that remains after clinical care ends
This is the handoff most programs never build: by Phase III your mentor, not your therapist, is the anchor of daily life, so finishing treatment feels like a transition you have already practiced, not a cliff.
How IIP Feels
The depth of higher-level care, at home
IIP brings the structure, intensity, and accountability of a higher level of care into your own home and daily life. Your parents, your partner, your loved ones get to be exactly that, a source of encouragement and presence, while our clinical team carries the treatment, the structure, and the coordination. You stay surrounded by the people and the life you are fighting for, and we handle the rest.
Our Approach
The Heights difference, concentrated
IIP is where our philosophy shows most clearly. Care is led by master’s-level clinicians with advanced training, co-occurring conditions are treated together, family is involved when it helps, and your privacy is protected throughout. We are honest about cost and out-of-network benefits from the first conversation. Above all, your program is genuinely yours, elevated by design and customized around the person, not a diagnosis or a template.

Common Questions
IIP, answered
If you do not see your question here, call our admissions team at (877) 549-5102 and we will walk you through it.
How much does IIP cost?
Because IIP is fully individualized, cost reflects the services and intensity in your plan. We are private pay and provide detailed superbills for out-of-network benefits, and we explain everything clearly before you commit to anything.
Do you take insurance for IIP?
We are a private-pay practice. For clients with out-of-network benefits, we provide detailed superbills you can submit to your insurer for possible reimbursement, and we will help you verify your specific benefits before you begin.
Who is IIP best suited for?
People with complex or co-occurring mental health and substance use needs, executives and professionals who need privacy and flexibility, anyone stepping down from residential care, families who want structure and involvement, and people who have found standard programs do not fit them.
What is Individualized Intensive Programming (IIP)?
IIP is our flagship and most personalized level of care. Rather than a fixed schedule, we build an intensive outpatient program entirely around your needs, history, privacy, and life, using the ASAM Criteria as the clinical backbone and adjusting the plan as you progress.
What are the three phases of IIP?
Phase I is stabilization and immersion, with clinical care leading and your mentor establishing trust and daily structure. Phase II is the deep therapeutic work, including EMDR, CPT, CSAT-led care, and family sessions, while mentoring expands into real-world practice. Phase III is step-down and handoff: clinical sessions taper on a planned schedule while mentoring and companioning anchor everyday life for a smooth transition.
How is IIP different from PHP or IOP?
PHP and IOP follow more standardized structures at set intensities. IIP is fully customized in services, intensity, schedule, and setting, and can flex across PHP-level, IOP-level, and outpatient-level hours within one program, with the same team throughout.
How does IIP use the ASAM Criteria?
A licensed clinician assesses you across the six ASAM dimensions: withdrawal potential, medical conditions, emotional and behavioral health, readiness to change, relapse potential, and living environment. That assessment sets your starting intensity, and we reassess throughout so your program steps up or down as your needs change.
Is mentoring included in IIP?
Yes. Recovery mentoring through our sister practice, Heights Mentoring, is woven into every phase. Clinical intensity is highest early and mentoring grows as it steps down, so by the final phase your mentor anchors daily life and remains in place after clinical care ends.
What is companioning?
Companioning is a higher-presence form of recovery support: a trained recovery professional alongside you for high-risk windows, travel, or transitions, coordinated with your clinical team. It can be built into any phase of an IIP when it helps.
Can specialty therapies be included?
Yes. EMDR, CPT, CBT, DBT, somatic experiencing, neurofeedback, CSAT-led sex and love addiction work, process addiction treatment, equine and art therapy, trauma-informed yoga, and family work can all be sequenced into your IIP as your plan requires.
Is IIP like residential treatment?
IIP gives you the depth and structure of a higher level of care while you stay in your own home and life. It is not a residential or around-the-clock program. Your loved ones provide day-to-day presence, your mentor provides structured support, and our clinical team handles the treatment and coordination. When residential care is clinically indicated, we refer to trusted partners and coordinate your return to IIP for step-down.
How long does IIP last?
There is no set length. Because it is fully customized, your program runs as long as it is helpful and steps down through its phases as you stabilize. We revisit the plan with you throughout.
Is IIP available with flexible or evening scheduling?
Yes. Scheduling is part of what we customize, including evening and weekend options, so your program can fit around work, family, and privacy needs.
